Kamuli police have arrested eight people on charges of aggravated robbery in an intelligence-led operation conducted on March 22, 2025. During the operation, security operatives recovered two guns, two magazines, and several other suspected stolen items.
The suspects have been identified as Wambi Fred, a resident of Bukolobe zone, Kasaigo ward, Northern division in Kamuli municipality; Mugaya Grace alias Lwambaaga Jordan, a clinical officer from Butongole village, Namalemba parish in Bugweri district; Kwagala Susan, Mukasa Godfrey, Ayazika Godfrey, Namugona Aziz, and Boyi Sosi Pater, all from Butongole village in Bugweri district; Wamubiligwe Henry from Bulumba village, Iganga municipality; and Basalirwa Stephen from Kawete, Namugalwe subcounty in Iganga district. The group is alleged to be part of a criminal gang responsible for a series of aggravated robberies across the Busoga subregion.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on March 20, 2025, at around 10:00 AM, Wambi Fred was spotted covertly transporting items suspected to be firearms from Namwendwa to Bukolobe cell, Kasaigo ward in Kamuli municipality. Intelligence reports later revealed that on March 21, he moved the weapons to his brother’s residence in Bugweri district. Acting on this information, security teams launched an operation spanning Kamuli and Bugweri, leading to the arrest of Wambi and his associates. Upon searching the premises, police recovered two firearms, two magazines with ammunition, and other stolen items.
Among the recovered items were two motor vehicles, a Land Cruiser (registration number UAZ 656B) and a Toyota Hiace taxi (registration number UDR 580P). Additionally, security operatives seized multiple vehicle number plates, two television sets, and four new mattresses, which are believed to have been stolen.
The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend other suspects linked to the criminal gang. Authorities have commended the local community for cooperating with law enforcement and providing crucial intelligence that led to this breakthrough. Security agencies continue to urge residents to work closely with the police in combating crime and ensuring safety in the region.
