Former Bamasaba Cultural leader dies at 84

Grief has hit the Bugisu Sub-region following the death of the first leader of the Bamasaba Cultural institution (Umukuuka) who also was once the first LC5 Chairperson of Mbale, Wilson Wamimbi Weasa.

According to Stephen Masiga, the spokesperson of Masaba Cultural institution, Wamimbi died yesterday, Friday, 12th April, 2024 at 8.pm from Kiruudu hospital, Kampala City.

His Royal Highness Wilson wamibi weasa.

Masiga, in an interview today, said that late has been battling with pneumonia for the last one year.

He added that as the Masaba Cultural institution, they have lost a very important and irreplaceable leader

Masiga, also noted that as a Cultural institution, they have written to the Ministry of gender, labour and social development to grant the fallen former leader a state funeral as mandated by law.

Biography:

The late Umukuuka died at the age of 84. He first worked at Sheraton hotel as a board member, then later joined Nabumli high school as a teacher. In 992, he contested for Mbale district LC5 and was victorious.

After serving as Mbale district LC5 chairperson for six years, President Museveni appointed him as Ambassador of Uganda to Canada in 1998 where he spent most of the time working.

Later in 2010, he was elected as first Cultural leader of ‘Inzu ya Masaba’ for five years before he was replaced by another royal king Bob Mushikori, who died in 2020.

Burial arrangements are currently underway.
