On 16th and 17th June 2025, Commissioner Mr Stephen Tumwine of the Local Economic Development (LED) Directorate conducted a comprehensive two-day training session at the production hall in Amolatar District.
The initiative aimed to build the capacity of departmental heads in the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the PRUDEV II routine coaching visits—two vital frameworks designed to boost local economic development through Investment Committees.
The training equipped the Local Economic Development Investment Committee (LEDIC) with valuable insights into PDM implementation and emphasised the importance of developing a comprehensive area economic profile. Such a profile is crucial for linking PDM enterprises to market opportunities, thereby increasing the prospects for sustainable community growth.
Commissioner Tumwine stressed the importance of creating a detailed district profile to effectively market Amolatar and attract a variety of development organisations. By establishing a strong economic narrative, the district can enhance its appeal to potential investors and partners.
He further highlighted the urgency of developing the tourism sector and related industries through strategic recruitment. He advocated for the hiring of dedicated tourism officers, noting that a strengthened tourism sector would play a significant role in increasing local revenue and enhancing economic resilience in Uganda’s central region.
The training session reflected a forward-thinking approach to local economic development, equipping district leaders with the tools and knowledge required to implement impactful strategies that benefit the people of Amolatar.
The collaborative efforts under PRUDEV II, combined with support from the Ministry of Local Government (MoLG), are expected to ensure the successful achievement of these developmental goals, paving the way for a more prosperous future for the district.
In conclusion, the commitment demonstrated by the leadership and participants during this training signifies a shared vision for sustainable development—one that leverages local resources and capacities to promote economic transformation in Amolatar District.
