The Territorial Police in Amolatar District have launched an investigation into a tragic case of murder by assault that occurred late on the evening of February 28, 2026.

The incident unfolded at approximately 1939 hours in Kabangala Village, located within the Muntu Sub-County.

The matter was reported to local authorities on March 1, 2026, at around 1030 hours by Ogwal Kizito, a 36-year-old male teacher residing in Wangipol Village, Agwenonywal Parish, Nalibwoyo Sub-County.

According to police spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, initial inquiries reveal that the victim, identified as Elwonge, a 40-year-old peasant from Nakituba ‘A’ Village, was spending time at a drinking establishment with the suspect, Ayoki Denis, aged 54, who also works as a peasant and lives in Awercek Village. Both individuals are from the same Muntu Parish.

An altercation reportedly erupted between Elwonge and Ayoki, stemming from a misunderstanding.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that during the ensuing physical struggle, the suspect overpowered the victim and inflicted severe injuries, including a brutal assault that involved pulling the victim’s genitals.

”Bystanders intervened, separating the two men, after which Elwonge returned home.” Okama states.

Tragically, Okema said, it was later discovered that Elwonge had succumbed to his injuries, with his body found at around 1000 hours on March 1.

His death is believed to be directly linked to the violence sustained during the earlier altercation.

The case of murder by assault has been formally registered at the Amolatar Central Police Station (CPS).

A team of detectives, accompanied by the District Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), has conducted a thorough examination of the scene and gathered statements from witnesses to support the ongoing investigation.

The deceased’s body has been transferred to Amolatar Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination, and a PF 48 form has been issued as part of the protocol.

SP Okema emphasized that investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of death and the full circumstances surrounding this disturbing incident.

The police have strongly condemned such acts of violence, particularly those arising from minor disputes. They urge community members to resolve conflicts peacefully and report any incidents to the nearest police station promptly, contributing to a safer environment for all residents.
