The Police in Patongo town council, Agago district have opened investigations into a suspected case of murder involving a 5-year-old girl, identified as Lakica Rachael, a pupil at St. Joseph nursery and primary school and a resident of Katolit village, Kiteny parish, Ajali subcounty, Agago district.

Preliminary reports indicate that on the morning of Friday, 25th April 2025, the deceased left home to go to school in the company of other children from the same village. However, at around midday, her peers began searching for her to return home but failed to locate her. Upon checking at her home and not finding her there, they informed her parents, who immediately began a search effort in coordination with community members.

Despite the search, her whereabouts remained unknown, prompting the family to report a case of disappearance at Agago Central Police Station. The search continued for days without success.
Tragically, on the evening of Monday, 28th April 2025, at around 6:00 PM, the lifeless body of Lakica Racheal was discovered in a bush at Lacan Kweri Village by four youths who were hunting wild birds in the area. The body was found in a decomposing state, lying on its back in a spine position, naked and partially covered by shrubs. Maggots had infested the remains, and one of her feet was missing. The scene was cordoned off for forensic examination, and the body was conveyed for a post-mortem to establish the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing.

IP Oloya Joe, the Regional Community Liaison Officer and spokesperson for Aswa East Region, confirmed the incident and stated that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the suspect(s) involved in this heinous crime. He urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with police by providing any useful information that could aid in the arrest of the perpetrators. The Uganda Police Force condemns in the strongest terms acts of violence against children and will do everything possible to ensure that justice is served for the deceased and her family.
