Police in Lamwo district have arrested a man in connection with the brutal murder of his elder brother following a violent domestic dispute in Techwa village, Okol parish, Madi Opei sub county.

The deceased, identified as Ocira Sebastian, aged 60, was reportedly assaulted by his younger biological brother, Komakech Robert Okwera, 36, under disturbing circumstances that have left the community in shock.

According to initial investigations, the two brothers had spent the evening of Sunday, May 4, 2025, drinking at the home of a man only identified as Tabu. Later that evening, as Ocira was returning home, Komakech allegedly followed him and, upon reaching the victim’s compound, attacked him.

Komakech is accused of striking Ocira viciously with a local wooden hand hoe, targeting his chest. The assault was witnessed from a distance by a woman, identified only as Abalo, who reportedly rushed to the scene, intervened, and managed to rescue the victim. Ocira was taken to a nearby clinic for treatment before being returned home later that evening.

However, the situation took a tragic turn the following day. On the evening of Monday, May 5, 2025, at around 7:00 PM, the victim was found dead in his grass-thatched house by a resident identified as Aya Rose, and it is believed he succumbed to injuries sustained during the earlier assault.

A local hand hoe, suspected to have been used in the attack, was recovered from the deceased’s room, stained with what police believe to be blood.

The arrest of the suspect, Komakech Robert Okwera, was confirmed by IP Oloya Joe, Aswa East Regional Police Spokesperson. He stated that Komakech is currently in custody as investigations continue, and that charges of murder are being prepared while police await the full post-mortem report.

The incident has sparked renewed concern over domestic violence and alcohol-related conflicts in rural communities.
