Bukungu–Kakuwaga–Kaberamaido ferries set for commissioning tomorrow

19 February 2026, 18:08

One of the ferries set to begin operations at Bukungu Landing Site.

The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Works and Transport, will tomorrow commission the BKK ferries, which are expected to speed up and ease transport from Kampala to Northern Uganda.

The two ferries were constructed at the Bukungu landing site in Bukungu Town Council, Buyende District, where they will operate.

Speaking to us, residents expressed their happiness about the project and called on the Government to expedite the construction of the Jinja–Kamuli–Bukungu road, saying it will provide one of the easiest routes to Northern Uganda, including Serere, Kaberamaido, Soroti and Kumi, among other areas. They added that improved connectivity will boost business activities in the region.

The two ferries cost over 41 billion Uganda shillings.

More details will follow in tomorrow’s event coverage.
