The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has tightened its grip in Apac District after securing seven positions unopposed in the forthcoming district council and municipal council elections.

The development follows the just-concluded nominations for LCV chairpersons, city mayors, and councillors at the Electoral Commission offices in Apac.

Among those declared unopposed are six district special interest group councillors: youth councillors Okwang Mike and Paska Achola, workers’ councillors Geff Okaka and Loys Alupu, disability councillor Hannington Otim, and older persons’ representative Margret Ewany. Additionally, in the municipal council nominations, Maxwell Otoo went through unopposed as the male councillor representing persons with disabilities.

According to Apac District Election Administrator Joseph Omona, pursuant to Section 134(2) of the Local Government Act, Cap 138, a candidate nominated unopposed is declared elected and issued with a declaration form.

As much as the general elections are scheduled for next year, the seven candidates now await to take oath and assume their seats in their respective councils.

Speaking about the development, the Apac District NRM Registrar Bonny Ojaa attributed the milestone to unity within the NRM party structures and described it as a clear sign of the party’s dominance ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Mr. Omona, however, cautioned aspirants across the district to strictly follow the Electoral Commission’s official roadmap. He urged those who have not submitted nomination forms to do so early to allow sufficient time for verification. He further emphasized that campaign programs must be submitted to the Commission by 20th October 2025 for proper harmonization of schedules.

He reminded candidates that official campaigns will run strictly between 10th November 2025 and 12th January 2026, warning that any early or unauthorized campaign activity could lead to severe consequences, including the nullification of nominations.
