As members of the 12th Parliament prepare to be sworn in this May, the Member of Parliament-elect for Maruzi County in Apac District, Peter Obong Acuda, has purchased a new ambulance valued at over Shs173 million to support health service delivery in his constituency.
The ambulance, which has already arrived in the area, is expected to begin operations after its official launch and ceremonial handover.
Speaking to Radio Apac on Saturday, Mr. Obong said the purchase fulfills one of the key pledges he made to voters during the campaign period.
“This was one of my commitments to the people of Maruzi. Before I even assume office, I wanted to ensure that access to emergency medical services is improved,” he said.
Mr. Obong explained that the ambulance was bought using personal funds, including money that remained from his campaign budget.
He noted that limited access to timely medical transportation has been a major challenge in the constituency, often affecting patients in emergency situations.
Beyond healthcare, the MP-elect pledged to address challenges in the education sector to restore confidence among learners and improve overall community development.
He said his priorities will include strengthening health services, improve education standards, and support economic empowerment initiatives.
Mr. Obong also called for unity among residents following the elections, urging them to put aside political differences.
“I will serve everyone in Maruzi, whether you voted for me or not. What matters now is working together for the betterment of our constituency,” he said.
Local leaders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a positive step toward improving essential services in the area.
Mr. Obong becomes one of the first MP-elects in the area’s recent history to deliver such a significant community project before officially assuming office.
Obong a upc, beat his closed rival from ruling national resistance movement party party to secured the position following heated contest which shows most members of parliament under Uganda people congress party losing in 2026 election.
