Over 200 women train on social economic development

In a bid to fight poverty through good leadership, over 200 women council leaders on Tuesday June 4th attained training on social economic development and mindset change at Amolatar town council.

The event was organized by Woman Member of Parliament Amolatar District.

Hon. Dr. Agnes Atim Apea in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development tackled issues of food security, domestic violence, saving skills and leadership.

While speaking to women, the woman MP Dr. Agnes Atim Apea tasked leaders to perform their tasks that they were elected for as women council leaders urging them to embrace government programs.

Dr Apea also asked women to store food at home whenever harvested in order to fight food insecurity that hits mostly women and their children.

Apea appealed to women to respect and love their husband to prevent effects of domestic violence like suicide, that has become so rampant in Amolatar in the recent past.

Hon. Atim hinted at saving culture saying it is the best way women and any other person can get out of poverty.

In addition, Dr. Apea also supported the women with 200 cashew nut seedlings.

The Deputy Executive Secretary National Women Council at the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development urged the women to always participate in leadership positions at higher levels.

Emily Akullo Omacara told the women that besides church, women council leadership, they can shoot higher to cause development in the entire nation.

However, Kalla Teddy Ojok the district Commercial officer appealed to the women to be in groups and get money and other support usually sent to the district for their projects.

Kalla added that Amolatar district has already disbursed over 9 billion Uganda Shillings to different SACCO groups and 2 billion has been given to women.

Okodo Peter, the proprietor of Jerusalem Nursing School based in Lira city urged the women to save however little they get because it elevates ones living standards.

Okodo congratulated the women for always saving the little they have.

Meanwhile the district vice chairperson local council five Hon. Sam Peter Onyang said that without the women, most homes in the district would be starving without food urging them to continue working hard and support their spouses.

He also advised them to desist from bad alcohol consumption.

Adur Evaline, one of the participants praised Hon. Dr. Agnes Atim Apea for always supporting the women groups in Amolatar district as a whole. Adur Promised to spread the gospel to the other women who never attended the training.

Mary Ococ, another participant welcomed the idea of saving saying the acquired knowledge will shoot her to higher heights.
