In a heartbreaking incident on 5th March 2025, the community of Amolatar is mourning the loss of 15-year-old Brenda Akello, who tragically lost her life in a traffic accident directly in front of Amolatar Secondary School. Brenda, known for her kindness and dedication to helping others, was reportedly on her way to deliver food to a patient at Amolatar Health Centre IV when the incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses indicate that Brenda was struck by a speeding water tanker owned by the Ministry of Works, registration number UG2115W. The driver, identified as Afrigo, was operating the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Details surrounding the accident are still emerging, but local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to this devastating event.
Brenda lived with her cousin, Geoffrey Ocen Kiring, the Chairperson of the Local Council of Amolatar. Her family hails from Abwong parish in Arwotcheck sub county, and she was deeply loved within the community.
Friends and relatives describe her as a vibrant young girl with dreams of making a positive impact in her neighbourhood.
Local leaders and residents have expressed their outrage and sorrow over the incident. At the time of compiling this report, Brenda’s body had been taken to Amolatar mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police, led by a team of traffic officers, also visited the scene, and the vehicle has been impounded at Amolatar Central Police Station as investigations commence.
