The territorial command of Apac district is actively investigating a tragic incident involving the alleged mob murder of an individual identified as Okello Patrick. The incident occurred in Awilabongo village, Amun parish, within Apoi subcounty.
According to a statement from SP Okema Jimmy Patrick, the spokesperson for the North Kyoga Police, the crime was reported by Bongonyinge Moses, the 46-year-old LC2 Chairman for Amun parish. Preliminary reports indicate that community members apprehended Okello Patrick at around 6:00 a.m. on April 7, 2025, on suspicion of cow theft.
It is alleged that the situation escalated, leading to the beating and subsequent death of Mr. Patrick.
Law enforcement officers and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) from Apac Central Police Station promptly examined the crime scene. A thorough postmortem examination has been conducted, and the remains of the deceased have been handed over to his family for burial.
Three individuals have been arrested in connection with this incident:
“We condemn the actions of those involved in taking the law into their own hands, as such conduct is a violation of Article 22 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, which protects individuals from unlawful deprivation of life,” SP Okema stated.
The police remain committed to ensuring that justice prevails in this matter.
“As we proceed with our investigation, we urge the community to refrain from acts of violence and to work collaboratively with law enforcement in maintaining peace and order,” Okema added.
