The residents of Obango parish in Agwingiri subcounty, Amolatar district, have come together to express their sincere gratitude to Retired Colonel Ongia for his recent generosity in supplying murrum, which has greatly improved a road that had long been in disrepair.

This initiative not only underscores Colonel Ongia’s commitment to improving his community but also serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative impact one individual can have on local infrastructure.

James Okello, a respected community figure, shared his thoughts on the fortunate turn of events. “We are truly fortunate to have Colonel Ongia among us,” he said, highlighting how the murrum has been vital in addressing the poor condition of the road. The improvements are expected to enhance connectivity within the region, improving the daily lives of many residents.

Geoffrey Epanya, the Chairperson of the Local Council Three in Agwingiri Sub-county, echoed these sentiments while discussing the ongoing challenges faced by the community. He noted that, despite their best efforts, a lack of funding to hire a grader had left them with no option but to take matters into their own hands. “We have chosen to undertake the road excavation ourselves,” Epanya said, demonstrating the resilience and determination of local leadership in overcoming obstacles.

Eweru Jimmy, a passionate advocate for the community, emphasised the importance of continued support from local politicians in this endeavour. He urged them to recognise that improving road infrastructure is crucial not only for their political aspirations but also for the overall upliftment of the community.

Poor road conditions, he pointed out, severely limit access to essential services such as education and healthcare, while also hindering business opportunities vital for economic development.

Nevertheless, the collective gratitude of the residents of Obango Parish stands as a poignant reminder of the power of community action and the positive changes that can arise when individuals step forward to make a difference.

With the combined efforts of Colonel Ongia, local leaders, and, hopefully, further support from politicians, the future looks promising for the residents, paving the way for enhanced accessibility and growth in Agwingiri Sub-county.

As Retired Colonel Ongia Francis prepares to contest for the Kioga County parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections, his commitment to community service remains a testament to his values and vision for a brighter future.
