On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Mr. Olum Peter, the district veterinary officer of Amolatar, made a compelling case for poultry farming as a crucial strategy for alleviating poverty in local households.

His remarks came at the conclusion of a two-day training session organized by Facilitation for Peace and Development (Fapad), aimed at equipping farmers with essential skills in poultry management and production.

During the training, Mr. Olum urged participants to actively implement the knowledge they acquired, emphasizing the potential impact on the wider community in Amolatar. “By adopting best practices in poultry farming, we can significantly enhance food security and economic stability in our district,” he stated, highlighting the importance of community engagement in agricultural initiatives.

Mr. James Auna, the Fapad coordinator in Amolatar, echoed these sentiments, encouraging the trained farmers to leverage their newfound expertise to boost poultry production in the region. Auna noted, “The techniques you have learned will not only improve your individual output but can also inspire others in your communities to consider poultry farming as a viable source of income.”

A significant highlight of the training was a practical demonstration on poultry vaccination, led by trainer Mr. Otema Sam.

He provided critical advice on maintaining cleanliness prior to the vaccination process and cautioned against administering two different types of vaccines to chickens at once, which could lead to unnecessary stress for the birds. “Proper vaccination practices are vital for the health of your flock and the success of your farming endeavors,” Mr. Otema emphasized.

Farmer Edonu Peter, who participated in the training, expressed his gratitude toward Fapad. “I am eager to apply the skills I’ve gained,” he remarked, adding that he intends to work within his group and across various households to enhance poultry production effectively.

Judith Atim, a resident of Awelo sub-county, has stated that raising over 50 chickens has significantly improved her family’s livelihood, enabling her to cover her children’s school fees and manage household expenses.

She expressed her gratitude to FAPAD for the training received and pledged to apply the skills learned to enhance poultry production.

This commitment reflects the spirit of collaboration and community support emphasized throughout the training sessions.

Fapad’s initiative included providing participants with free vaccine carriers and vaccines, ensuring that farmers have the necessary tools to implement what they learned directly in their villages.

As Amolatar’s farmers embark on this new journey in poultry management, the hope is that these efforts will not only uplift individual households but also contribute to the overall economic development of the region.

In conclusion, the training organized by Fapad has planted the seeds for a more prosperous future through improved poultry practices.

With dedicated professionals like Mr. Olum, Mr. Auna, and Mr. Otema guiding them, the farmers of Amolatar are poised to make significant strides in poultry production, ultimately working toward the collective goal of reducing poverty and enhancing community resilience.
