On May 27, 2025, the Amolatar district officially launched the renewal process for the National Identity Card and the registration of new cards at an event held at the district headquarters.
The Resident District Commissioner, Okello Francis Odoki Rwotlonyo, emphasised the importance of this initiative, urging residents to actively participate and engage fully in the renewal process.
During his address, Commissioner Rwotlonyo highlighted that the program will unfold over a three-month period, starting at the district level and gradually progressing through subcounties, parishes, and finally reaching village levels.
This tiered approach is designed to ensure that every resident has the opportunity to be included in this vital initiative.
“The National Identity Card is not just a piece of identification; it is a gateway to accessing various government programs and services.
Those who do not possess one will miss out on these essential benefits,” Rwotlonyo stated, reinforcing the card’s significance for local citizens.
In addition to the Commissioner’s insights, district NIRA officer, Gimano Xavior Francis provided crucial information regarding the documentation required for the renewal process.
He noted that individuals seeking to renew or register must present a photocopy of their existing National Identity Card.
For those looking to amend their details or replace lost cards, Officer Francis advised patience while waiting for further instructions.
“The first three months will be dedicated solely to renewing identity cards and registering new applicants. Individuals who have lost their identity cards but still retain a photocopy can proceed with the renewal process immediately,” he clarified.
This initiative is a critical step towards enhancing identification and ensuring that all residents of Amolatar are included in national programs, thereby fostering greater community participation and access to essential services. Residents are encouraged to take part actively in this process as it unfolds across the district in the coming months.
Amolatar district aims to reach 186,000 individuals to obtain the New National Identity card.
