The Bishop of Lango Diocese, Rt Rev. Prof. Alfred Olwa, has commended the leadership of Amolatar district for their efforts in relocating and reconstructing Aninolal Primary School, which had been submerged by floods following the rising water levels of Lake Kyoga in 2019.

During the re-commissioning ceremony held yesterday, Bishop Olwa applauded the district’s initiative in allocating UGX 499 million for the new school, located in Namusale subcounty.

Bishop Olwa also expressed gratitude to the parents who donated land and contributed funds for acquiring additional land needed for the school’s construction which is under the Anglican Foundation. He pledged to continue lobbying for further development support and urged parents to send their children to school, emphasising the importance of education and student discipline.

Amolatar LC5 Chairperson Geoffrey Ocen responded to concerns raised by the school’s head teacher, Mr. Odongo Francis, about the lack of adequate toilet facilities. Ocen requested Canon Ogwal Owinye, Principal of Namusale Technical School, to provide technical and logistical support to construct sanitary facilities at the school.

Ocen further thanked local leaders and members of parliament for their collective effort in lobbying for funds from the Office of the Prime Minister, which facilitated the school’s relocation.

In a related appeal, Rembo Onguu, Chairperson of Namusale subcounty, called on the district to deploy more teachers to the school and drill a borehole to address the pressing need for safe drinking water.

Amolatar Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Vuciri Geoffrey, commended the contractor, Tomtu Investment Uganda Limited, for the quality of work delivered, noting that the new facilities would serve as a model for future district projects.

Amolatar Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Tany Shara, urged parents to take full advantage of the new school by enrolling their children and joining efforts to reduce school dropout rates in the area.

She commended the NRM government for prioritising education and urged for increased support for President Yoweri Kaguta.

Kyoga County MP Okot B’Tek praised fellow leaders for their commitment to the school’s reconstruction and pledged 10 bags of cement to aid the construction of additional toilet facilities.

Aninolal Primary School currently has an enrollment of 926 pupils. The new multi-million-shilling facility includes two modern classroom blocks, offering a significant boost to the learning environment in the area located at the shores of Lake Kyoga.
