On May 26, 2025, a spirit of generosity and community development was palpable at St. James Akol Church of Uganda (COU), as Kioga North constituency Member of Parliament hopeful Mr. Okodo Peter made significant contributions toward the completion of the reverend’s residence at Akol Vicarage. His donations included 2 million Uganda shillings and a tipper truck for sand collection—both vital to the project’s progress.

During a fundraising drive aimed at garnering further support for this important initiative, Mr. Okodo also purchased a bull worth 1 million shillings to support the Mothers’ Union project, exemplifying his commitment to local development and community welfare.

While addressing the congregation, Mr. Okodo expressed heartfelt gratitude to the christians present for their generous contributions toward finishing the vicar’s residence. “Your support has been invaluable,” he said, urging everyone to carefully consider the leaders they choose in future elections. “Select those who value you as individuals and not merely as voters. We need leaders who prioritise the community’s well-being.”

Mr. Okodo also emphasised the importance of education, calling on parents to send their children to school. “Akol is looking forward to educating many children for great development,” he remarked, recognising that a well-educated generation is essential for the region’s future.

In his sermon, Rev. Canon Denis Obonyo echoed this sentiment, stating, “No one should be left behind if there is to be peace.” His message reinforced the need for collective effort and inclusion within the community.

Thanking Mr. Okodo for his vital contributions, Archdeacon Awelo, Rev. Canon Sam Otim Ogwang, highlighted the significance of such donations in fostering development. “We appreciate your support of 2 million and the tipper for sand, which will greatly aid in completing the reverend’s residence,” he said. He further encouraged all christians to contribute whatever they can, noting that every effort counts toward achieving communal goals.

The event was a testament to the power of community spirit and collaboration in Akol, showcasing how committed individuals like Mr. Okodo Peter and supportive church leaders can drive meaningful change.
