On June 9, 2025, history was made as 1,121 students from Namasale Technical Institute and 66 students from Namasale Seed Secondary School proudly graduated during the inaugural passing out ceremony of student patriots at Namasale Technical Institute.
This momentous occasion highlighted the commitment to instilling values of patriotism and discipline within the youth of Uganda.
In an interview with our reporter, Canon Moses Ogwal Owiny, the Principal of Namasale Technical Institute, expressed his gratitude for the patriotism training provided to the students. He noted, “This program has significantly enhanced our students’ discipline, and they have pledged to uphold these values in their daily lives.”
Mrs. Pamela, headmistress of Namasale Seed Secondary School, echoed these sentiments, describing the program as timely, coinciding perfectly with the start of the term. She emphasized the importance of maintaining physical fitness among the graduates alongside the key areas of training.
Mr. Joseph Obete, the district coordinator for patriotism, highlighted the diverse subjects the students were trained in, which included not only patriotism and discipline but also the role of youth, effective communication skills, political history, and HIV/AIDS awareness.
The event was graced by Major Francis Balmoi Abang, the political commissioner of the 5th Infantry Division at Acholpii Army Barracks. He urged the graduates to cherish their country, stating, “The future of Uganda rests in your hands.” He elaborated on the essence of true patriotism, explaining that it goes beyond mere words; it requires a willingness to make sacrifices for one’s nation. Major Abang also expressed his appreciation to the office of the RDC and the regional coordinator for their roles in ensuring the program’s success.
Assistant RDC Ms. Sarah Tyan encouraged the graduates to apply their newly acquired skills and knowledge to support government initiatives, reinforcing the significant role they can play in nation-building.
The ceremony was further marked by the presence of area MP Moses Junior Okot, who generously donated 400,000 UGX to support the students from both schools.
Ocen Geoffrey, the local council five chairperson of Amolatar and guest of honor for the day, conveyed his appreciation to His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for endorsing the program. He described it as a vital initiative that fosters patriotism among students, urging them to return to their communities and contribute positively.
Among the exciting activities during the graduation ceremony were tree planting, parade marching, and a cultural gala emphasizing the preservation of tradition. The event was attended by notable figures including the Mayor of Namasale Town Council, Hon. Otoo Goddy, the chairperson of LC3 Namasale Sub County, board members of Namasale Technical Institute, and proud parents.
As the graduates move forward, they carry with them not only the knowledge and skills acquired but also a renewed sense of responsibility towards their country, ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow and build a better Uganda.
