The long-awaited results of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary primaries have been officially announced, revealing a tense and competitive atmosphere in Kioga County.

Henery Ojok, the District Registrar, declared Adupa Felix the winner of the Kioga County Member of Parliament race, having secured 3,960 votes (26%).

The race was particularly close, with Carlos Opul and Col. Dr John Francis Ongia trailing just behind, garnering 3,744 votes (25%) and 3,719 votes (25%) respectively.

In contrast, the Kioga North County primary produced a clearer outcome, with Okodo Peter securing victory by a significant margin.

He received 10,570 votes (54.26%), firmly establishing himself as the NRM flag bearer for the constituency.

His competitors, James Olobo and Isaac Odongo, trailed with 7,344 votes (37.7%) and 1,564 votes (8%) respectively.

The results for the Woman MP position in Amolatar District highlighted Dr Agnes Atim Apea’s dominance, as she emerged the clear winner with an impressive 23,829 votes (70.95%).

Dorcus Agnes Akome trailed behind with 9,760 votes (29.05%).

However, the announcement of the Kioga County results has not been without controversy. Several contestants, including Col. Dr John Francis Ongia, Dr Opul Carlos Saturday, and Odongo Lawrence Jago, have publicly rejected the results. They have raised serious allegations of irregularities which, they claim, tainted the electoral process and cast doubt on the legitimacy of the declared outcome.

The group held a press conference shortly after the announcement, during which they voiced their grievances and called for a thorough investigation into the alleged malpractice. They stressed that such irregularities undermine the values of democracy and transparency that the NRM strives to uphold.

They also alleged that reports from various polling stations in Kioga County indicated discrepancies in the voter registration lists, with several candidates and their supporters claiming that unauthorised individuals were permitted to vote.

As stakeholders and party officials review the situation, it is now imperative for the NRM to address these concerns in order to uphold transparency and integrity in the electoral process, reinforcing the democratic values the party stands for.

The events of this primary season are likely to have lasting implications for the political landscape in Kioga County as the party moves towards the general elections.
