The local government of Amolatar District has taken a significant step towards promoting health and wellness among its workforce by launching the Amolatar Physical Fitness Club.
Officially commencing activities on 16 June 2025 at the district headquarters, this initiative aims to encourage civil servants and community members to embrace physical fitness as part of their daily routines.
Organised by the office of the District Administrative Officer and the Resident District Commissioner, the launch of the club reinforces a government policy requiring all civil servants to maintain physical fitness to enhance service delivery, as confirmed by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
Speaking to Hot FM News, Paul Mbiiwa emphasised the importance of participation, urging all civil servants, stakeholders, and institutions to join the fitness sessions held every Wednesday and Thursday.
Supporting this initiative, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) emphasised the vital connection between physical health and reducing the prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, hypertension, and diabetes.
Francis Okello Odoki Rwotlonyo, the RDC, expressed concern over the alarming trend of civil servants succumbing to various illnesses due to insufficient fitness levels. This awareness prompted the creation of the Amolatar Physical Fitness Club. On the inaugural day, he noted the strong turnout and called upon corporate institutions—including banks, the media, police, prisons, and the business community—to participate actively in the club, which will operate twice a week.
The District Health Officer (DHO), who also took part in the first session, echoed these sentiments. Dr Jimmy Odongo emphasised the wide-ranging benefits of physical fitness, including maintaining health, managing stress, enhancing brain function, and promoting proper blood circulation.
He encouraged individuals from all walks of life to incorporate physical fitness into their routines as a vital part of their well-being.
In addition to encouraging participation, the physical fitness trainer invited everyone—regardless of age—to begin engaging in physical activities.
Charles Osendro reiterated that embracing physical fitness can help individuals combat various diseases and reduce the risk of health complications over time.
The Amolatar Physical Fitness Club embodies a community-focused approach to public health and wellness, fostering a culture of fitness that benefits not only civil servants but the entire community. As participants meet twice a week, it is clear that the council’s commitment to improving health outcomes through this initiative marks an important step towards a healthier, more productive future for Amolatar District.
