Lira University Teaching Hospital, together with the Nursing and Midwifery Faculty and the Center for International Reproductive Health Training (CIRHT), has organised Maternal and Child Health Camp to offer free treatment to sick mothers and children including other sexual and reproductivehealth services.

Assoc. Prof. Tom Richard Okello, the Clinical Hospital Director, said that the medical camp will take place from 15th to 17th October 2025 at the Hospital.

Prof.Okello said, “The camp targets addressing the needs of underserved populations, especially in remote areas, by offering essential care, treatments which strengthens the overall local healthcare system.”

To improve access to care in Lango sub region and the neighbouring communities, Ms Anna Grace Auma, Dean Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery said, the Camp brings healthcare services directly to communities, particularly those in remote areas that struggle to access specialized or timely care.

MsAuma, also Senior Lecturer and Project Investigator for CIRHT noted that the Camp services will include screenings for various conditions, which allows for the early detection of health problems in both mothers and children, leading to more timely and effective interventions.

The services that shall be offered free of charge to clients include cervical cancer screening, fertility and infertility consultations, fistula, prolapse screening, antenatal services, postnatal services, family planning and post-abortion care services, immunization, nutritional assessment and screening for malnutrition, HIV/AIDS counselling and testing and other sexual and reproductive issues and general gynaecological surgeries.

“This eventalso aims at providing a platform to educate the community about important health issues, improving knowledge and promoting healthier behaviors,” Ms Aumasaid.

To Increase community trust and satisfaction of the hospital, Ms Auma said, the healthcare staff are more than ready to provide services with dignity and compassion, build trust between the community and the healthcare facility, and the patients may report high satisfaction with the care received
