On October 30, 2025, during the launch of the Olyaka United Old Pupils Association, Mr. Aguga Geoffrey, the Chairperson of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Olyaka Primary School in Namasale Sub County, made a passionate appeal for the support of the school’s alumni.
He highlighted a critical need for a VIP pit latrine dedicated for the teachers, as they currently share facilities with the pupils.
Mr. Aguga expressed his concerns regarding the inadequate sanitation facilities for the teaching staff, pointing out that although a new toilet block was constructed recently, it unfortunately collapsed even before it could be put to use.
His plea for assistance resonated strongly, reflecting the urgent requirement for improved infrastructure to support educators who play a pivotal role in shaping the futures of their students.
In addition to the urgent sanitation needs, Mr. Aguga called upon the old pupils not just to contribute physically but also to assist in processing examinations for the current students, emphasizing that such efforts could significantly enhance the educational performance at Olyaka Primary School.
Further reinforcing the need for action, he urged the alumni to take part in renovating the dilapidated classrooms, which have fallen into disrepair over the years.
With the school having begun its journey in 1968 under the Catholic foundation, it is disheartening to witness that after 57 years, the classrooms remain in a state that no longer meets acceptable educational standards.
In response, Mr. Tuma Walter, Chairperson of the Old Pupils Association, acknowledged the profound influence Olyaka Primary School has had on their lives, regardless of where their journeys have taken them since graduation.
He emphasized that the primary objective of the association is to motivate and improve academic performance while fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration among former students.
Mr. Walter further articulated the commitment of the old pupils to stand by their fellow in both good times and bad, ensuring that future generations have the same opportunities they once enjoyed.
This collective vision underscores the importance of giving back to the institution that laid the groundwork for their success.
The call for action is clear: the Olyaka United Old Pupils Association holds the potential to transform both the physical environment of Olyaka Primary School and enhance the educational experience for current students, creating a legacy of support and excellence that will endure for years to come.
