The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving infrastructure in Kaberamaido district.
During a recent campaign rally at Kaburepoli Primary School, Museveni announced plans to tarmac the 73 km stretch from Katine to Ochero, a project he emphasized as crucial for boosting interconnectivity within the district and its neighboring areas.
He noted that funds for this construction have already been secured, with efforts underway to identify an appropriate contractor.
Moreover, the enhancement of roads doesn’t stop there.
The Ochero-Amolatar-Dokolo road will also see improvements, further facilitating access and economic growth for the communities involved.
Museveni assured voters of additional infrastructure developments during his next term, highlighting the government’s dedication to creating a robust transport network in the region.
Energy and Water Supply Initiatives
Emphasizing the need for basic utilities, Museveni promised to bolster electricity distribution across Kaberamaido district.
He highlighted plans for expanding the water supply system in Ochero, aiming to reach the remaining 9% of households without adequate access.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to improve living standards and promote sustainable development in the area.
Transport Solutions
In a move to enhance transportation and connectivity among districts, Museveni assured Kaberamaido residents of the deployment of two ferries on the Bukungu-Kagwara-Kaberamaido route.
This initiative aims to connect Kamuli, Serere, and Kaberamaido districts more efficiently. Both ferries are ready for operation, pending the completion of their docking facilities, underscoring the urgency of enhancing regional transport infrastructure.
Education Policy and School Distribution
Museveni expressed concern over the uneven distribution of government schools within Kaberamaido.
Currently, there are 45 primary schools across only 26 parishes, contradicting the education policy which stipulates one primary school per parish.
He pledged to ensure equitable distribution of educational institutions moving forward, emphasizing his commitment to providing quality education for all children in the district.
Health Sector Improvements
In terms of healthcare, Museveni committed to upgrading health facilities in the district, including the elevation of Murem HCII to HCIII in Okile Sub County and the establishment of new HCIIIs in Oriamo and Kaberamaido sub-counties.
Additionally, a focus on combating malaria was included in his agenda, showcasing a comprehensive approach to public health.
Economic Empowerment through PDM
During the rally, Museveni urged residents to take advantage of the Parish Development Model (PDM) initiative, which offers seed capital for starting businesses and engaging in commercial agriculture.
He reassured citizens of the government’s dedication to implementing development infrastructure and the importance of utilizing available socio-economic empowerment funds effectively.
Each parish is projected to accumulate up to 800 million shillings in their respective PDM savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs), with Museveni advocating for modern and effective financial management to drive local wealth creation.
Specialized Support for Fishing Communities
Understanding the unique challenges faced by fishing communities, Museveni proposed a separate fund to cater specifically to these groups, recognizing their higher capital requirements.
He encouraged them to conserve their fishing grounds while promising to scale up fish farming initiatives in the district.
Holistic Education and Skills Development
As part of his educational reforms, Museveni and the Kaberamaido electorate resolved to support the holistic implementation of free universal education in all government schools.
Moreover, he urged graduates from Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs to form joint enterprise groups to access government funding, fostering collaboration for greater economic opportunities.
First Lady’s Call to Action
Supporting her husband’s initiatives, First Lady Maama Janet Kataha Museveni rallied the electorate to defend the gains made under the NRM, encouraging continued support for development and wealth creation projects in Kaberamaido.
General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s vision for Kaberamaido reflects a multi-faceted approach to development—addressing infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
His commitments aim not only to enhance connectivity and services but also to uplift the livelihoods of the residents in the district, paving the way for sustainable growth and prosperity in the future.
