In a significant intervention aimed at preserving the integrity of national examinations, the Territorial Police in the North Kyoga Region have arrested three suspects allegedly attempting to bribe a Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Scout. The incident unfolded at Garden Inn Hotel in Lira City, where the suspects were caught red-handed following a swift response to a tip-off.

The apprehended individuals—Odongo George, Ekut Simon (32), and Awoko Lavoiser (26)—reportedly offered UNEB Scout Ayoo Christine, who is assigned to Oyam District, UGX 1,000,000. This amount was presented in UGX 50,000 denominations and was intended to compromise the ongoing Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), which began on October 31, 2025, with the candidate briefing.

North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the arrests, emphasizing the police’s commitment to upholding the credibility of national examinations. “The bribe was intended to undermine the integrity of the process, and our swift action has ensured that such attempts will not be tolerated,” he stated.

Upon their arrest, the police recovered the full bribe amount, which has since been documented as evidence in the case. The case has been officially registered at the Lira City Central Division Police Station, and investigations are actively ongoing. Once completed, the suspects will be presented before the court.

Okema reiterated the importance of complying with examination regulations, cautioning the public and all involved in UNEB activities against any forms of examination malpractice. He assured that the Uganda Police Force, in collaboration with UNEB, remains vigilant and committed to prosecuting anyone who seeks to compromise the integrity of the national examination system.

“The Police will not hesitate to act decisively against individuals who attempt to engage in corrupt practices,” Okema added, reaffirming the force’s dedication to delivering justice impartially.

As the PLE continues, stakeholders are reminded of the critical importance of maintaining the fairness and integrity of the examination process, ensuring that all candidates have an equal opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills.
