In a recent interview with our news desk, Otii Vincent, the manager of Firm Smart Agro Input based in Amolatar, emphasised the importance of making use of the ongoing light rainfall to prepare for crop planting.

He noted that the rainfall presents an excellent opportunity for farmers to grow crops such as cabbages, tomatoes and other vegetables that thrive under these conditions.

“The light rain we are experiencing is a timely blessing for local agriculture,” Otii stated during a Tuesday afternoon interview.

He spoke with enthusiasm, urging farmers to take decisive action before weather conditions change.

With the dry season approaching, he stressed that farmers must maximise the benefits of this mild rainfall.

Otii shared an inspiring success story of a local farmer in Agikdak who has already begun transplanting his tomato seedlings.

“This farmer’s proactive approach is likely to yield substantial profits from his early investment,” he explained, encouraging others to follow suit.

The message is clear: the current weather should not be ignored, as it offers the potential for fruitful harvests.

In addition to promoting vegetable cultivation, Otii also provided strategic advice on crop selection.

He recommended that farmers select drought-resistant seed varieties to ensure resilience against extreme weather conditions. “By choosing these robust seeds, farmers can protect their crops even during periods of intense sunlight,” he advised, emphasising the importance of preparedness in the face of ever-changing climatic conditions.

Moreover, Otii disclosed that Firm Smart Agro Input is actively purchasing raw cassava at competitive prices. This initiative not only supports local farmers but also enhances the economic viability of their agricultural activities. “We are committed to promoting sustainable farming practices while providing fair market opportunities for our farmers,” Otii concluded, underscoring Firm Smart Agro Input’s dedication to supporting the agricultural community.

As the Amolatar region experiences favourable light rainfall, farmers are urged to follow Otii’s advice and take advantage of the opportunities presented by the current climate.

With the dry season approaching, Francis Ojok, the District Production Officer of Amolatar, has strongly advocated for the adoption of irrigation systems among local farmers.

He stressed that implementing these systems is essential for ensuring food security throughout the year.

Ojok highlighted the significant challenges farmers face during the dry season, particularly water scarcity, which drastically reduces crop yields and threatens livelihoods. “By employing irrigation techniques, farmers can maintain consistent moisture levels in their fields, thereby improving productivity even when rainfall is limited,” he explained.

Furthermore, Ojok noted that irrigation enables the cultivation of a wider variety of crops that may not thrive under traditional rain-fed agriculture. This diversification helps secure food availability and provides farmers with the opportunity to increase their income through the sale of surplus produce.

The District Production Officer called on local agricultural stakeholders to work together in promoting comprehensive training programmes on irrigation methods. “Equipping farmers with the necessary skills and knowledge is crucial for building a more resilient agricultural sector in Amolatar,” he emphasised.
