NRM LC3 candidates make significant gains in Amolatar elections

In a concluded local council election in Amolatar, significant outcomes have emerged across sixteen sub-counties, as declared by District Returning Officer Irene Hope Nakiru.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) secured six positions, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) won two, independents claimed five seats, and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) also achieved two positions.

In Muntu, incumbent Pule Thomas successfully retained his position as LC3 Chairperson, receiving 2,399 votes. His closest competitor, Agwea Alfred Okuja of NRM, garnered 1,069 votes.

Ocen Alfred Yubu defended his seat in Naibwoyo with 1,291 votes, ahead of NRM candidate Owak Tom Oyom, who received 689 votes. FDC’s Okot Alfred and independent candidate Okello Anthony trailed with just 19 and 32 votes, respectively.

In Agwingiri, UPC’s Patrick Balmoi emerged victorious with 973 votes, unseating incumbent Epanye Geofrey of FDC, who obtained 886 votes. NRM’s Okello Martin finished with 381 votes.

Independent candidate Okello Charles Opee triumphed in Aputi with 1,076 votes, surpassing NRM’s Engim Patrick, who received 920 votes. UPC candidate Ayaa Tom garnered 212 votes, while independents Opio Cedric and Obang Francis received 24 and 63 votes, respectively.

Incumbent Ongu Remebo convincingly retained his LC3 seat, defeating NRM’s Ojek Tonny by a remarkable margin of 1,030 votes. Remebo received 1,682 votes against Tonny’s 749. UPC’s Ayen Rapeal received 643 votes, while independent Omia Robert ended with 14 votes.

In Arwotcek Sub-county, independent candidate Aboko Moses Dolotia won with 1,243 votes, defeating NRM’s Emar Joseph, who received 811 votes, and incumbent Ogwal Tom of FDC, who secured 760 votes.

In Agikdak Sub-county, Ogwal James, running as an independent, won narrowly with 1,146 votes, edging out Elwange JB, who received 1,132 votes. In Etam Sub-county, incumbent George Okello Ongol retained his seat with 1,054 votes, ahead of Oguta Alfred, who obtained 805 votes.

NRM’s Abura Isaac successfully maintained his position, as did Apenyo Felix in Abeja Sub-county.

In Amolatar Town Council, incumbent Etum Gregorey secured 2,001 votes, surpassing UPC’s Okello Chrispus, who received 612 votes. In Acii, Peter Okori Okot upheld his LC3 chairpersonship with 1,003 votes.

In Namasale Town Council, Opwonya Bosco of UPC emerged victorious with 981 votes, defeating Oyuku Arafat and Otunga Geoffrey, who obtained 872 and 320 votes, respectively.

In Akwon Sub-county, voting was postponed due to complications at one polling station. In Odiak Parish within Muntu Sub-county, Opon Samuel of FDC triumphed with 386 votes against NRM’s Muntu LC3 chairperson, Emwalu James, who collected 337 votes.

The NRM celebrated successes in Opali, Amolatar Town Council, Etam Sub-county, Etam Town Council, Acii Sub-county, and Abeja Sub-county. Independents achieved victories in Awelo, Nalibwoyo, Aputi, Agikdak, and Arwotcek Sub-counties, while UPC claimed wins in Agwingiri and Namasale Town Council. FDC secured positions in Muntu and Namasale Sub county.

The elections resulted in a mix of retained and new leaders across various sub-counties. Those who retained their positions include Abura Isaac (Opali), Etum Gregorey (Amolatar), Okello Ongol (Etam), and Pule Thomas (Muntu). Conversely, some incumbents, including Epanye Geofrey (Agwingiri) and JP Ocen Eteng (Awelo), were unsuccessful in their re-election bids.

The evolving political landscape reflects changes in local governance and public opinion across these areas.
