Women in Amolatar are currently energized and diligently striving to expedite their empowerment in the face of increasing poverty in the area.
During a meeting held on Wednesday 4th.March.2026 at the women’s mill premises, the women collectively decided to not overlook the upcoming Women’s Day celebration and established a committee that is set to meet with the president on that day.
Judith Acana, the Chairperson of the Amolatar Women Mill Association, stated that the women of Amolatar have a vision for a strategic plan to secure and establish a common market, enabling them to benefit collectively and expand their market reach.
She further emphasized that the President had previously promised several grants for their milling facility, including tractors and trucks, to enhance their production, and they intend to use the forthcoming Women’s Day celebration as an opportunity to remind him to fulfill his commitment.
The Deputy RDC, Mr. Obonyo Magwar, who is recognized for his close oversight of the project, accepted the responsibility to connect the women with the president’s office, stressing that the President had made a pledge back in 2010, but due to poor leadership and reluctance, these promises have not yet been realized.
Ketty Obang, who represented the women, expressed their hopes that the President would assist the group by providing costly machinery such as tractors and lorries, as well as capital to expedite their SACCO.
Anna Okot Sam, a member of the SACCO, also mentioned that as women residing along the lake shores, they hope the President will consider constructing a fish processing plant to enhance fisheries-related businesses in the district for women.
Meanwhile, the Forestry Officer of Amolatar District Erick Ocen advised the women to explore additional projects such as poultry and forestry to broaden their business opportunities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a delegation of three was formed, led by Judith Acana, with two other members yet to be elected, to convey their concerns.
