The Won Atekerin of Kumama, Papa Rafile Otaya, has strongly advocated for the enhancement of education across the Lango subregions and Kumam communities.

During a visit to the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Amolatar on Thursday, Otaya highlighted significant educational challenges facing these areas, noting that both communities lag behind in educational attainment.

Otaya revealed that, in partnership with other stakeholders, the Kumam Kingdom has developed a strategic plan aimed at supporting children from underprivileged families.

He emphasised that many children who possess strong academic potential lack the necessary support due to poverty.

“This initiative will be inclusive,” Otaya stated, “transcending cultural institutions and tribal affiliations to ensure every deserving child benefits.”

Addressing concerns on school dropouts, Otaya expressed deep worry over the trend, stating that students who leave school prematurely often find themselves involved in criminal activities stemming from their lack of knowledge and opportunities.

He urged community leaders and parents to work collectively to curb this alarming pattern.

On the topic of land disputes and family conflicts, Otaya called upon cultural leaders to take a proactive role at the community level. He stressed that resolving land issues locally is crucial, as prolonged court battles consume valuable resources and may escalate tensions leading to violence.

Meanwhile, the RDC of Amolatar, Francis Okello Odoki Rwotlonyo, joined the discourse by urging parents to stop keeping their children out of school.

He asserted that all school-aged children must be enrolled and attend school consistently. “Education is vital for our community’s future,” he noted.

The RDC also cautioned residents against falling prey to fraudulent prayer warriors who exploit the community by soliciting money with false promises of wealth.

He encouraged victims and witnesses to report such incidents immediately to his office, assuring that stringent security measures are in place to address and prevent wrongdoing.

Together, these leaders underscore a shared commitment to improving education, maintaining peace, and safeguarding the welfare of the Lango subregions and Kumam people.
