Man, 20, arrested for allegedly defiling 4-Year-old girl

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man, Okello Geoffrey Onweng, on allegations of defiling a four-year-old girl in Jaka Central A, Atoo parish, Bongtiko subcounty. The incident occurred on Friday, September 20, 2024, at around 7pm.

Reports indicate that Onweng allegedly lured the victim with maize before committing the act in his home. “This is a shocking incident for our community,” said Mr. Lugela Kilama, Chairperson of Bongtiko subcounty. “The mother of the victim bravely came forward, and the community quickly rallied to confront the suspect.”

Following the revelation from the victim’s mother, local residents gathered and confronted Onweng at his residence, leading to his arrest. Pader District Police Commander SP Jackson Bogere confirmed the incident, stating, “The suspect is currently being held at Pader Central Police Station, awaiting further investigation to ensure justice is served.”

The latest police crime report reveals a troubling trend, with 13,144 juveniles reported as victims of defilement in 2023. “Among these cases, 12,818 were female and 326 were male,” Bogere added. “We are dedicated to addressing these crimes and supporting the victims.”
