In a significant development, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Pader, Mr. Milton Odongo, has issued a stern warning to residents, advising them to steer clear of a planned demonstration in Pader town council.
Odongo’s caution came during a recent radio talk show, where he revealed that intelligence reports had alerted him to an organised group’s intention to storm his office at the district headquarters.
The RDC emphasised the potential dangers associated with participating in the demonstration, noting that doing so would be at individuals’ own risk. “We have credible information about plans to disrupt peace and storm the district headquarters. I urge residents to avoid being part of this unlawful assembly. The consequences could be severe, and everyone must be responsible for their actions,” Odongo stated firmly.
The warning has sparked discussions and varying reactions among the residents and local leaders. Pader district councilor Beatrice Ayemo suggested that the roots of the planned demonstration might be intertwined with ongoing misunderstandings involving Pader LC V Chairperson Fearless Obwoya Oyat. According to Ayemo, there have been rumours that Obwoya allegedly vowed to remove the RDC by rudimentary means, which may have fueled the unrest.
In response to these claims, Obwoya denied any involvement in or support for the demonstration, dismissing the allegations as unfounded political attacks. “These accusations are baseless and politically motivated. I have no intention of resorting to rudimentary means to address any grievances. My focus remains on serving the people of Pader with integrity and dedication,” Obwoya declared.
The tension in Pader town council underscores the broader challenges facing local governance and political stability in the district. Residents are left to weigh their options carefully, mindful of the RDC’s warnings and the potential implications for community harmony.
