Lagwai Seed Secondary School has passed out 74 students who completed a one-week patriotism training programme aimed at promoting discipline, civic responsibility, leadership and good citizenship.

The pass-out ceremony, held on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, at the school playground, was presided over by Mr Omongin Augustine, Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Pader District and Guest of Honour.

Mr Omongin urged the students to apply the values acquired during the training in their daily lives and become disciplined, hardworking and responsible citizens.

He encouraged them to respect the Constitution, elders, teachers and other members of society while avoiding violence, corruption, tribalism and misinformation.

He also urged the students to support their parents through productive activities, particularly agriculture, and encouraged communities in Acholi to embrace commercial farming and resolve land disputes peacefully.

Headteacher Mr Okot Paul said 74 of the 115 students completed the patriotism training and called for regular training to promote discipline.

He said the school has 609 students, but fewer than 480 sat their examinations, citing economic hardship as a possible cause of school dropout.

Mr Okot appealed for more government teachers, additional classrooms, a library, an examination hall, larger laboratories and permanent hostel facilities to address the school’s growing needs.

The Chairperson of the Board of Governors, Mr Oyet Alex Labeja, said patriotism training helps students develop discipline and understand their responsibilities as citizens.

He appealed for support to construct a boundary fence, improve classrooms, and provide uniforms and equipment for patriotism club members.

He, however, appealed to the Office of the RDC to facilitate a visit by the President to Lagwai Seed Secondary School to assess first-hand the challenges affecting the school and support efforts to address them.
