Political parties in Pader District have intensified preparations for the upcoming Local Council elections, with the NRM, Democratic Party, and People’s Front for Freedom and Forum for Democratic Change mobilising candidates, facilitating nominations and expressing confidence in their performance in the grassroots polls.
Political parties in Pader District have stepped up preparations for the forthcoming Local Council (LC) elections, expressing confidence in their candidates and calling on residents to actively participate in the electoral process.
Speaking on behalf of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Ojok Richard Olal, Vice Chairperson of NRM Pader District, said the party had successfully completed its internal electoral exercise and now has candidates in all villages across the district.
He urged candidates for Women’s Council, LC1 and LC2 positions to have their nomination forms stamped by NRM Parish Registrars, emphasising that the process is free of charge.
He also reminded voters that the elections will be conducted through the lining-up method and predicted that the NRM would secure more than 95 per cent of the positions in Pader District.
Meanwhile, Mr. Cliff Atare, Democratic Party Spokesperson for Pader District, said the Democratic Party has established several centres to facilitate the stamping of nomination forms.
He noted that the Pader Town Council centre is located at Oloki and is coordinated by Chairperson Kilama Fearless Wodacholi.
According to Mr. Cliff Atare, candidates from Paiula, Pajule Sub-county and Pajule Town Council are being assisted by Mr Okello Balex, while Mr Odonkara Joffrey is coordinating the exercise in Atanga, Angagura and Laguti sub-counties.
Mr. Cliff Atare further revealed that the party recently met Norbert Mao, President of the Democratic Party, who promised support for candidates contesting for LC1, LC2 and Women’s Council positions.
He described the Democratic Party as the second strongest political force in Pader and said the party expects to field between 50 and 100 candidates.
On the side of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Okello Bosco, Chairperson of the People’s Front for Freedom in Pader District, said the party currently has 348 candidates contesting for LC1 chairperson positions across the district’s 878 villages.
He called on party leaders to continue mobilising more candidates and expressed confidence that the PFF could perform strongly in the elections.
Meanwhile, Opobo Comboni, Chairperson of the Forum for Democratic Change in Pader District, said the party has been coordinating with its national secretariat and encouraged all candidates to submit their details by 15 July to facilitate possible party support.
He also urged voters to elect leaders committed to serving their communities and said the FDC had made arrangements to ensure its official party stamp is accessible to candidates in both Aruu County and Aruu North Constituency.
As the nomination process continues, political parties in Pader District are intensifying mobilisation efforts and preparing for what is expected to be a highly competitive grassroots election.
According to the Electoral Commission roadmap, nominations for LC I candidates will run from 15 to 19 July, followed by campaigns from 20 to 27 July and polling on 28 July, while LC II elections will be held on 10 August 2026.
