Newly elected Olwornguu north LCI Chairperson defects to NRM

Newly elected Olwornguu North LCI Chairperson Francis Mwaka has defected to the NRM after over 30 years in the FDC. He announced the switch during a thanksgiving prayer on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, aiming to support government programs from within the ruling party.

The newly elected LCI Chairperson for Olwornguu North Cell in Acoro Parish, Pader Town Council, Francis Mwaka, has officially defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), ending more than 30 years of membership in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

Mwaka announced his defection on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 6:50 p.m. during a thanksgiving prayer held at his home, shortly after being elected unopposed as LCI chairperson on the independent ticket in the village elections.

He said although he had been an FDC member for over three decades, he had always acknowledged government achievements.

Mwaka noted that by joining the NRM, he now wants to support and promote government programmes from within the ruling party.

During the ceremony, Mwaka handed his FDC party card to Richard Ojok Olal, the Pader District NRM Vice Chairperson and District Speaker, who welcomed him into the party.

Ojok urged more leaders, including members of Mwaka’s executive committee, to join the NRM.

Ojok Richard Olal expressed confidence that Francis Mwaka will provide effective leadership to the community and commended him for joining the NRM

He presented Mwaka with the party constitution and UGX 100,000 to facilitate activities of the village executive.

The thanksgiving service was led by Pastor Danish Okot of New Covenant Christian Centre Pader, who prayed for God’s protection, wisdom and guidance for Mwaka and his newly elected executive as they begin their leadership.
