Newly elected Olwornguu North LC I Chairperson Francis Mwaka has defected to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) after more than 30 years as a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
Mwaka announced his decision on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, during a thanksgiving prayer held at his home in Olwornguu North Cell, Acoro Parish, Pader Town Council, shortly after being elected unopposed as an independent candidate in the LC I elections.
He said that although he had been an FDC member for over three decades, he had always recognised government achievements.
Mwaka explained that his decision to join the ruling party was aimed at enabling him to support and promote government programmes from within the NRM.
During the ceremony, Mwaka handed his FDC membership card to Richard Ojok Olal, the Pader District NRM Vice Chairperson and District Speaker, who welcomed him into the party.
Ojok encouraged more leaders, including members of Mwaka’s executive committee, to join the NRM.
He expressed confidence that Mwaka would provide effective leadership to the community and commended him for choosing to join the ruling party.
He presented Mwaka with the party constitution and Shs100,000 to support the activities of the village executive.
The thanksgiving service was led by Pastor Danish Okot of New Covenant Christian Centre Pader, who prayed for God’s protection, wisdom and guidance for Mwaka and his newly elected executive as they begin their leadership journey.
