Dfcu Bank leads corporate support for Pader cleaning exercise

Dfcu Bank has joined the Government and community leaders in supporting the National Cleaning Day exercise in Pader Town Council, providing cleaning materials and encouraging residents to take collective responsibility for maintaining a clean environment.

The bank participated in the exercise on Saturday, 29 August 2026, alongside other companies and businesses, including Airtel Pader Branch and Pepi Depot Pader, as government officials, security personnel, health workers and community members cleaned streets, markets and other public areas.

Pader Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Amos Asiimwe Banji appreciated Dfcu Bank for arriving early and providing uniforms and brooms to support participants.

Banji said the involvement of private companies demonstrates the importance of partnerships between the Government, businesses and communities in addressing public sanitation challenges.

He also commended the Police, UPDF, health workers, district officials and media practitioners for participating in the exercise.

Dfcu Bank Branch Manager Julius Ogeatum said the bank decided to participate as a team because it wanted to be actively involved in the initiative rather than simply observe it.

He said the exercise provided an opportunity for different organisations and community members to work together while building relationships.

According to Ogeatum, maintaining a clean town requires the participation of everyone, including businesses and individual residents.

He urged the people of Pader to embrace the monthly cleaning exercise, saying collective responsibility is essential for the town’s development.

Meanwhile, District Councillor V Okello Walter Raleigh said the involvement of organisations such as Dfcu Bank should encourage residents to participate more actively.

Okello expressed concern over the low turnout among community members despite public mobilisation by the Town Health Inspector.

He said residents should not leave the responsibility of cleaning the town to government authorities.

The councillor linked community cleanliness to Pader’s ambition to attain municipality status, saying residents must demonstrate that they can take care of their town.

Oding Santo, LCI Chairperson of Lagwai Central B Cell, called on business owners to clean the areas around their premises and urged residents to clear bushy plots.

Oding Santo warned residents who fail to clear their bushy plots that they could face fines to cover the cost of cleaning services carried out on their behalf.

In Pajule, LC3 Chairperson Okello Titto Brilliant appreciated community members who provided trucks for waste collection and encouraged continued cooperation.

He said National Cleaning Day should become a shared community responsibility involving the Government, businesses and residents.

National Cleaning Day is part of the Government’s monthly programme to promote sanitation, public health and environmental conservation across Uganda.

The exercise is held from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. on the last Saturday of every month, with the Government urging citizens to make cleanliness a shared responsibility and sustain the practice beyond the designated cleaning day.
