Farmers in Lagoro sub county trained on increasing income, reducing risks

Lagoro, Kitgum – Farmers in Lagoro sub county, Kitgum district, convened at the sub county headquarters on Saturday for a comprehensive training session aimed at increasing agricultural income and mitigating farming risks. The event was organised by Lagara Investment Limited in partnership with Pride Microfinance Limited and Agro Consortium.

Amarorwot Claire, a representative from Agro Consortium, emphasised the importance of agricultural insurance, urging farmers to adopt it as a safeguard against losses caused by natural disasters. In her address, she highlighted how insurance could cushion farmers from unexpected setbacks, enabling them to continue farming with greater confidence.

Meanwhile, Ojok David Laurence, a trainer from Lagara Investments, highlighted the benefits of large-scale farming in securing a stable household income. He also introduced climate-smart practices, value addition, and strategies for accessing better markets for agricultural products, emphasising their role in enhancing farm productivity and ensuring financial sustainability.

Pride Microfinance’s Pader Branch Manager, Brian Kabogu, reassured farmers about government-backed, interest-free loans available through Pride Microfinance, Housing Finance Bank, and Post Bank. Kabogu encouraged participants to open accounts with these institutions to access financial support for their farming ventures.

Farmers left the training session with renewed optimism, expressing confidence that the knowledge gained would enhance their productivity and secure their financial future, enabling them to tackle the challenges posed by climate change and fluctuating market conditions.
