Hon. Dr. Agness Atim Apea, Woman Member of Parliament for Amolatar, was welcomed at the podium.

Amolatar district came alive as women gathered to celebrate the belated International Women’s Day.

The vibrant atmosphere at Nabweyo Primary School playground was filled with hope and determination, reflecting the spirit of empowerment championed by local leaders.

Dr. Agness Atim Apea, a prominent female Member of Parliament from Amolatar, spearheaded the event, emphasising the crucial need for the allocation of the 30% share designated for women under the Poverty Alleviation Multi-Sectoral Programme, a parish development module (PDM), and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEPS). “An empowered woman is a good woman,” she declared, reinforcing the principles upheld by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.

Dr. Apea insisted that these shares should be delivered promptly to women, as it is their right and a step towards sustainable development.

She passionately encouraged women to pursue leadership roles, starting with positions such as local council chairpersons. “Diligence is key,” Dr. Apea stated, as she introduced initiatives like providing savings boxes designed to foster women’s financial independence and development.

Furthermore, the esteemed MP highlighted the importance of embodying the qualities of a good woman during these celebrations.

She called for a collective stand against domestic violence, urging women to respect and love their husbands, as mutual respect forms the foundation for family harmony.

The message was clear: the essence of International Women’s Day lies in celebrating and uplifting those who strive for improvement and dignity in their homes and communities.

As the elections approached, Dr. Apea also took a moment to request prayers for the district, acknowledging the often divisive nature of electoral campaigns.

She emphasised the importance of educating children and eliminating domestic violence, advocating for a peaceful environment where every individual can thrive.

In her commitment to community development, Dr. Apea reassured residents of Acii, Namasale Town Council, and the surrounding sub-county about the installation of a grinding mill at Nabweyo Trading Centre, a project aimed at enhancing local livelihoods.

Moreover, as the guest of honour, she pledged 1 million shillings towards the construction of a girls’ dormitory, addressing the urgent needs identified by the local council of Namasale Sub-County.

Her remarks were met with enthusiasm, as they reflected a strong commitment not only to her re-election in 2026 but also to the ongoing progress of women in the region.

In a light-hearted yet profound statement, Peter Okodo, who is aspiring for the Kioga North constituency in 2026, another influential voice at the celebration, noted, “Anything given to a woman is likely to multiply,” a reminder of women’s inherent strength and capability.

The belated celebrations in Amolatar stood as a testament to the unity, resilience, and aspirations of women in the district.

Underlining the significance of empowerment, education, and mutual respect, the day served as both a celebration and a call to action, encouraging all to play their part in fostering a brighter future.
