On Wednesday, August 6th, the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) undertook a crucial operation in Inomo Ward, Amolatar Town Council, detonating a Boom grenade that had been discovered in the garden of the local council one chairperson.
The grenade, which had lain dormant for an extended period, was identified as a potential hazard and was safely detonated by the UPDF Boom experts from Acol pii.
An officer involved in the operation, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that the explosive device could have been a remnant from as far back as World War II.
He highlighted the importance of community vigilance, praising the local residents for their proactive approach in reporting the suspicious item to the authorities.
The grenade was unearthed on Sunday, August 3rd, prompting immediate concern among the residents.
Witnesses to the detonation expressed relief and emphasized the need for continuous education about safety measures related to unexploded ordnance.
They urged parents in the community to instruct their children to keep a safe distance from unidentified objects and to report anything unusual to avoid accidents.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community awareness and the vital role that local citizens play in maintaining safety within their neighborhoods.
