Amolatar district launches solar-powered water project benefiting over 1,000 residents

Amolatar District has commissioned a Shs 530 million solar-powered water project that will provide safe, clean water to more than 1,000 community members in Odyak Trading Centre, Muntu Subcounty.

Presiding over the launch, Amolatar District Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Pule Boniface, commended the government’s efforts in extending clean and safe water to rural communities. He also thanked the Ministry of Water for training the Water User Committee in proper management of the facility.

Pule urged the committee to ensure adequate security at the site to prevent theft of key components such as solar panels.

The Amolatar Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Acio Susan Eyura, appealed to residents to safeguard the facility, stressing the importance of community ownership to ensure the project’s sustainability.

She further directed the contractor to continue monitoring the water system throughout the six-month defect liability period, to ensure that any faults are addressed before the full handover to the Water User Committee.

Meanwhile, the Mutu Subcounty LCIII Chairperson, Pule Thomas, urged the Ministry of Water to extend the project to neighbouring areas such as Abiram Trading Centre and to nearby government institutions, including Mutu Seed Secondary School, Mutu Primary School, and Nakatiti Health Centre III.

The project, implemented by Nexus Green Limited with funding from UK Export Finance, covers a 2km radius and will benefit villages including Agwenonywal, Acutcami, Odyak, and Aberler B.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in improving the quality of life for residents of Amolatar District through enhanced access to essential water resources.
