Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii served with distinction as Won Nyaci of Lango from 2003 to 2024, a tenure marked by strong leadership and dedication to the cultural heritage of the Lango people. In his tribute, Eng. Odongo Okune emphasised the importance of honoring Mzee Yosam Odur’s legacy during this time of remembrance.

“Today, we not only mourn the loss of our beloved leader but celebrate the contributions he made to our culture and community throughout his life,” stated Eng. Odongo Okune. He urged every member of the Lango community to come together in unity as they prepare for the burial of Mzee Yosam Odur, which will take place at the national burial grounds.

In light of this loss, the Won Nyaci has called upon all Owitong (clan leaders) and Atekere (clans) across Lango to observe this mourning period collectively, emphasising that cultural activities across all clans must remain suspended for the duration of the week. He highlighted the necessity for peace, love, and unity among the people of Lango, warning that division during this trying time would detract from the honor owed to their departed leader.

“As we grieve, let us remember the values that Mzee Yosam Odur stood for—leadership, togetherness, and respect for our customs,” appealed Eng. Odongo Okune.

The Lango Cultural Institution encourages all individuals and families to participate in the mourning and to show their respects to Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii, who has laid a profound impact on the Lango heritage.
