The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is excited to announce that Amolatar District will be a recipient of the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP), backed by funding from the World Bank.
This vital initiative is set to address the challenges caused by recent flooding on the Acii to Muchora road by rehabilitating it, thereby enhancing local agricultural productivity, improving market access, and fostering resilience in various value chains across the region.
As the heavy monsoon season descended upon Muchora, the once-bustling landing site transformed into a flowing river, swallowing everything in its path. The rain fell relentlessly, drumming against road and creating puddles that soon merged into a surging tide, making the road unrecognizable.
The UCSATP’s primary goal is to elevate agricultural practices while ensuring a rapid and effective response to crises or emergencies that may arise within the agricultural sector.
MAAIF is dedicated to promoting sustainable farming methods and enhancing infrastructure to support these initiatives.
As part of the upcoming project activities, MAAIF will oversee a series of procurements aimed at facilitating the project, including:
– **Supply, Delivery, Training, and Commissioning of 4WD Tractors and Implements**
– **Supply, Delivery, Training, and Commissioning of Heavy Earth Moving Equipment**
– **Rehabilitation/Construction of Farm Road Chokes**
To ensure the success of UCSATP, MAAIF will conduct an Early Market Engagement Conference designed to foster market awareness and inclusivity.
This important conference will bring together industry experts to discuss market conditions and the technical aspects of the project.
Additionally, it aims to validate budgets and capture procurement preferences while identifying potential barriers to participation.
Mr. Dulson Okello, the entomologist overseeing the project in Amolatar, emphasizes the importance of community engagement, stating, “This project presents a unique opportunity to involve local businesses and stakeholders in meaningful dialogue that can shape the future of agriculture in our district.”
MAAIF is committed to promoting sustainable agricultural development and enhancing food security and nutrition in Uganda. Through various projects and initiatives, the Ministry strives to improve livelihoods and strengthen the agricultural sector across the nation.
