The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is pleased to announce that Amolatar District will benefit from the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP), supported by funding from the World Bank.

This important initiative aims to address the challenges caused by recent flooding along the Acii to Muchora road by rehabilitating it, thereby improving local agricultural productivity, enhancing market access, and strengthening resilience across various value chains in the region.

During the heavy monsoon season, the once-bustling Muchora landing site was transformed into a flowing river, with relentless rain drumming against the road and forming puddles that merged into a surging tide, making the route almost impassable.

The primary goal of UCSATP is to enhance agricultural practices while ensuring a rapid and effective response to crises or emergencies affecting the sector. MAAIF is committed to promoting sustainable farming methods and improving infrastructure to support these efforts.

As part of the project, MAAIF will oversee a series of procurements, including:

  • Supply, delivery, training, and commissioning of 4WD tractors and implements
  • Supply, delivery, training, and commissioning of heavy earth-moving equipment
  • Rehabilitation and construction of farm road chokes

To support UCSATP’s success, MAAIF will host an Early Market Engagement Conference aimed at raising market awareness and promoting inclusivity. The conference will bring together industry experts to discuss market conditions, technical aspects of the project, validate budgets, capture procurement preferences, and identify potential participation barriers.

Mr Dulson Okello, the entomologist overseeing the project in Amolatar, emphasised the importance of community engagement, stating, “This project presents a unique opportunity to involve local businesses and stakeholders in meaningful dialogue that can shape the future of agriculture in our district.”

MAAIF remains committed to promoting sustainable agricultural development, enhancing food security, and improving nutrition in Uganda. Through initiatives such as UCSATP, the Ministry aims to strengthen livelihoods and advance the agricultural sector nationwide.
