The Chief of Kal P’Otongo Clan, Rwot Ongom Kasemiro, has called on his subjects to embrace coffee growing and take full advantage of government programmes aimed at boosting household incomes and combating poverty.
Rwot Kasemiro made the appeal while delivering his Easter message to the people of Kal P’Otongo, live on Radio Wang Ooh FM, on Saturday, 19 April 2025. He emphasised the importance of striking a balance between growing food crops for family consumption and investing in commercial crops like coffee to generate income.
He noted that the market value for coffee remains strong, with a kilogram currently selling for an average of 8,000 Ugandan shillings. He urged his community members to take advantage of the free coffee seedlings being distributed by the government under the Operation Wealth Creation initiative.
Rwot Kasemiro further encouraged the use of funds received under the Parish Development Model (PDM) to invest in long-term projects such as coffee farming. He explained that with proper planning and commitment, coffee can become a reliable source of income that transforms the financial situation of rural households.
His message comes at a time when many rural communities in Northern Uganda are seeking sustainable ways to improve their livelihoods and reduce dependency on subsistence farming.
Rwot Kasemiro concluded his Easter message by calling for peace, hard work, and unity, emphasising that development can only take root in a stable and focused community.
