In a remarkable show of grassroots financial empowerment, members of Agweng Business Association in Awere subcounty, Pader district have grown a UGX 600,000 cash donation from Aruu County MP Komakech Christopher into over UGX 10 million in under two years.
Speaking during a financial literacy training held on Sunday, May 11, 2025, and supported by the office of Aruu County MP, the association’s chairperson Alex Ojera hailed the session as a major boost to their money management skills.
The training focused on dfcu’s Investment Club programme, which brings together individuals with shared business interests to pool funds and achieve common goals faster. Otto James, a trainer from dfcu, highlighted the benefits of this approach.
Okwir Denish, an accountant of Agengo/Lamiyo subcounties in Agago district, encouraged business owners to use loans for investments, rather than unproductive ventures.
Business association treasurer, Acia Grace attributed their financial success to the MP’s initial support, revealing the group now has over UGX 10 million in savings.
Group member Laker Evaline shared how the association has positively impacted her life—helping her pay school fees, purchase oxen, and improve her livelihood through farming.
With over 100 active members, the association now eyes formal registration as a SACCO to expand its financial reach and membership.
