Kanungu: Four arrested in connection with the murder of a Boda Boda cyclist

The Police in Kanungu district are holding four suspects for allegedly murdering a boda boda rider to death before taking off with his motorcycle.

The suspects identified as Joab Niwagaba, Justus Byaruhanga,Onesmus Aine and Moris Ariho all residents of Kihihi Kanungu district are accused of waylaying Isaac Muhumuza, 18, a boda boda rider before taking off with his motorcycle registration number UEZ 310H

Kigezi Police spokesperson Elly Maate, told CroozeFM that on the 06/11/2022, a case of disappearance was reported at Kihihi police station by Hope Nyurarukundo of her son after he failed to report back from his boda boda work.

Maate says, on the same date, police got information from motor cycle mechanics in Kanungu township that two people were selling motor cycle spare parts.

They responded and arrested one Justus Byaruhanga Justus, 23, of Kihanda cell where one suspect Joab Niwagaba escaped.

He says, a case file of being in possession of suspected stolen motorcycle registration number UEZ 310H was opened against Byaruhanga, which has turned to be both murder and Aggravated robbery respectively.

Maate narrates that a group of bodaboda riders on information from both police and Radio Announcements, followed Niwagaba who had escaped and was arrested in Rubuguri in Kisoro district, where he was hiding and brought him back to Kihihi.

Niwagaba on interrogation, revealed his other two associates; Ariho and Aine who were both arrested.

Niwagaba further confessed that him together with Ariho and Aine killed the deceased and buried him at Matanda 1 cell Kihihi subcounty in the farm of the late Stanley Musekura and robbed his Motorcycle Reg UEZ 310H Bajaj boxer Red in colour.

Police visited the scene together with the district team upon swearing an affidavit and getting Court order, the body was exhumed, Postmortem was done and body handed over to relatives for decent burial.
