Primary school teacher drowns, dies in lake Bunyonyi

A 27- year -old teacher at Genesis Nursery and primary school Kekubo Kabale municipality, south western Uganda has drowned and died in Lake Bunyonyi.
Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesperson identified the deceased as Ochet Christopher, from Kwania district and has been teaching in Kabale for the last two years.
The incident according to Maate happened on 26th 02 2023 at around 07:30am, when Ochet, signed out with some pupils for morning jogging up to the lake, after which he opted to swim and on his way back to the dock, he couldn’t make it to the shore.
His body was found today at around 2:00 pm by local divers and the marine police at the lake.
After the incident a joint team of the security leadership from both Kabale and Rubanda disricts, addressed the market community operating at the lake on how to prevent water incidents and how they should freely work with the marine police to minimize on drowning incidents.
Maate says the body of the deceased has been taken to Kabale referral hospital for postmortem and upon which will be taken to Kwania the home district for burial.
