Teen delivers baby in a pit latrine in Rubanda district, arrested

Police in Rubanda district have arrested a16- year- old girl who gave birth to a baby in a toilet in Nyamiyaga village, Igomanda Parish, Hamurwa Subcounty Rubanda district.

The victim is Edina Kobusingye and according to Elly Maate the Kigezi Police region spokesperson, she was impregnated and left with no help by her village mate Boaz Arinda.

Maate narrated that on 20/03/23, at around 8:00pm Kobusingye experienced labour pains and informed her father one Herbert Katurebe, who rushed her to the church for prayers instead of the hospital.

With too much pain, Kobusingye went to the pit latrine, squatted and pushed the baby into the pit latrine.

Police removed the body and conveyed it to the relative for decent burial while the minor was shortly held at questioning and later taken to Hamurwa Health Centre 1v where she is receiving treatment.

According to Maate, efforts to arrest Arinda the one responsible for the pregnancy are underway.
