Mbarara police shoot dead three suspected kidnappers

Police in Mbarara have shot dead three suspected kidnappers in Ruhumba-Rubindi town council Mbarara district.

According to Rwizi Region police spokesperson Samson Kasasire, the trio kidnapped Pastor Mary Byarisya from Gombo district on 6/2/2023 and asked for a ransom of 30 million before they could release him.

He says, through intelligence, a joint security operation, they tracked them down along the Mbarara Ibanda road at Ruhumba Rubindi Town Council Mbarara District on the 13/02/2023 at around 07:00pm.

Kasasira says they were intercepted in a motor vehicle registration number UAZ 935N Toyota Premio but attempted to resist arrest by running over officers and grabbing their guns. This prompted the officers to shoot at the assailants killing them instantly.

The deceased have been identified as Andrew Behakanira alias Bashir and two others yet to be identified.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem and idenfication while the victim is undergoing medical examinations before she can be reunited with her family.
