The Apac District Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) has selected 25 pupils to represent the district at the 2026 National Primary Schools Sports Championship in Mubende District.
The selection exercise was conducted on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, at Apac Boma Grounds, where pupils from across the district were assessed.
Of the 25 pupils selected, 15 boys will compete in football, while 10 girls will take part in handball.
Apac District UPSSA Chairperson Opio Boniface said the selection process was successful and conducted fairly.
He explained that the district initially had six sub-counties, but the creation of an additional sub-county brought the total to seven. He said the change was necessary because Alworoceng Parish is currently cut off by floods, making it difficult for residents to access the Ibuje Sub-county headquarters.
Opio said the district has assembled a strong team and is awaiting approval from the district authorities. He added that once approval is granted, the pupils will be ready to compete at the national level.
Apac District Acting District Sports Officer, Mrs Moreen Adoc, said the district had selected its strongest athletes and was confident they would perform well at the championship.
She said the selection and training exercises were conducted over three days at Apac Boma Grounds, allowing officials sufficient time to identify the most outstanding participants.
Mrs Adoc said the team is expected to depart on Sunday, 23 August, and expressed confidence that it will improve on last year’s performance.
Districts from across Uganda under the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association will gather in Mubende for the National Primary Schools Sports Championship, which will feature several sporting disciplines.
The championship, held during the second term of the academic year, is scheduled to run from 23 August to 4 September 2026.
Last year, Apac District reached the quarter-finals in both football and handball. This year, the district aims to go further and put in a stronger performance at the national championship.
