Lango Cultural Institution seeks shs 2.8B for new Paramount Chief Coronation

Lango Cultural Institution is now seeking for shs 2.8 billion to fund the much anticipation installation of the Won Nyaci (Paramount Chief) elect, Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune slated for 2nd December 2024.

Eng. Dr. Odongo was elected on the 1st of March 2024 by 1600 delegates drawn from over 130 clans following the abdication of office by the reigning paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii who informed government that he will vacate office by 1st of November 2024.

Odongo (58) a former pioneer Executive Director of Uganda Road Fund will now succeed Yosam Odur Ebii (94) who has been at the helm of Lango Cultural Foundation leadership since 2003.

On Friday, the coronation committee led by the Central Organising Committee vice Chaiperson Maxwell Akora Ebong Patrick laid a budget to support coronation of Dr. Odongo Okune during a special sitting chaired by Speaker Willy Omodo Omodo Kagere.

Akora who doubles as Maruzi county MP in Apac district said the budget will cater for among others, coronation of the new paramount chief, security, transportation, procurement of regalia for the paramount chief and clan heads, documentation of clans and tour by the paramount chief in the diaspora among others.

In the presented budget estimates presented by Akora, mobilization and publicity has been allocated 85M, welfare, meals and refreshment 425M, venue 305M, security and first aid 305M among others.

The chairperson coronation committee Denis Hamson Obua who doubles as Ajuri county MP and Government Chief Whip called upon the people of Lango to make contributions to support the coronation of the new Won Nyaci besides other support that they expect to raise from the President , government officials and other cooperate organizations.
Obua said they will also work to bring to an end the leadership squabbles that had persisted in Lango cultural institution.
Lango Parliamentary Group Chairperson, also Kole district Woman MP,Judith Alyek said election of the new Lango Paramount Chief has restored peace in Lango cultural Institution.
Alyek said her fellow legislators from Lango are highly prepared to support the coronation of Odongo Okune.
Lango Parliamentary Group General secretary also Kole North MP Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti called on the people of Lango to prepare to host delegates who will be coming from other places to witness the coronation of Odongo Okune.

The Clan head of Abwor, Rtd Col. Tony Otoa called for support from all people of Lango towards the coronation of Odongo Okune.
