A section of secondary school teachers in Apac district have laid down their tools in protest over delays in payment of their salaries.
The teachers are demanding their four months salary arrears accumulated from November 2022 to date.
Last week the affected teachers from Akokoro, Apac seed, Chegere and Ibuje Secondary Schools gave Apac district leaders till 13 March 2023 to act on their demand, failure of which they would resort to industrial action.
Elvis Owira, the spokesperson Apac secondary school teachers’ association confirmed the teachers’ strike.
Edward Ogwang the chairperson, Apac head teachers’ association who doubles as the head teacher of Chegere SS expressed disappointment with failure by Apac district to pay the teachers’ salaries.
When we sought his comments yesterday afternoon, Okaka Geoffrey the Chief Administrative Officer of Apac asked our reported to call him back in the evening, but again he did not answer our calls later on.
Patrick Ocen, the Senior Education Officer of Apac said they are doing all it takes to clear the teachers’ salaries.
