Four prisoners at Otuke Government Prison have tested positive for the Mpox virus.

Otuke District Health Officer, Patrick Opio, confirmed the report and stated that the affected inmates are currently receiving treatment.

According to Opio, the four cases were identified after testing 18 inmates who were suspected of contracting the disease.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the virus may have been transmitted by a visitor who recently exhibited symptoms of the disease during a visit to the prison.

Opio has urged the public to remain vigilant and to adhere to precautionary measures to prevent the further spread of the Mpox virus.
